Family Support

Family Support Services

Paces Sheffield charity was created out of the need that families had to find an appropriate system of education for their child in the UK.  It was discovered by them that the only system available that addresses all of the needs of a child with cerebral palsy is Conductive Education. During the late 1980's early 1990's many families worked hard to ensure their child could benefit from Conductive Education by attending the Peto Institute in Hungary.
Two of the Paces Sheffield charity founding families who had the experience of attending the Peto Institute, remain with the charity and they continue to prioritize the needs of families.  It is recognized that by addressing the family's needs, the family is then empowered to manage the circumstances that arise around their disabled child.
Karen Hague, one of those founding parents fulfills a role for the charity in the area of family support.  The Trustees and families were delighted when she received an MBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace on behalf of Paces in 2004 in recognition of this.

The following is some of the work she has undertaken alone and with others:

 - assistance with obtaining an appropriate Statement of Special Educational Needs

- guidance and practical assistance in preparing an appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal

- Information regarding support that is available for families

- Parent to Parent support

- attendance at reviews of a child's Statement of Special Educational Need

- involvement in local and national policy consultations
