Hello and Welcome

We hope you will like Paces' new website.  Please have a good look around to explore the work we do with children and adults with cerebral palsy as well as the support we give to their families. During the next few weeks we will add more content, so do visit us often.

'From the day our daughter started at Paces, and continuing now, her progression constantly amazes us. She has already far exceeded any expectation we had about how she would manage and overcome her cerebral palsy, and we know that she is capable of so much more'.  Martin & Tina Bown

So our Special Free School application fell at the very last hurdle. Feedback from the Department for Education (DfE) was helpful but didn’t make up for the disappointment that we and all our supporters felt.  Every sign was that we had a strong and bold proposal. Ofsted said we were a ‘Good’ school; we had a steady track record of growth since 1997; had been set up by parents; and Paces was sound financially.
Why did we fail? It came down to evidence. Our plan was to grow Paces School from 30 pupils now to 66.   DfE said that we had not evidenced demand from parents and support from local authorities for the school.

What now? We still need to grow our services. Our aim for 2012 is to do what we do now but better and for more people. Already we have won a grant for £150,000 to refurbish our adult rooms as we did last year for the School.  An advert is running on ITV Yorkshire which can also be found on YouTube. This is just the start of reaching out to more families and to new partners.
Do you know someone with cerebral palsy? Tell them about Paces!
